My Van Needs External Storage

Ry, my 2022 Thor Rize campervan, (now for sale) has plenty of internal storage.

the closet

Factory-installed storage

There are three large cabinets on the driver side, along with shelving and drawers behind them. On the passenger side there is another cabinet, more drawers, and a microwave that is great for storing plates and paper towels. In the bathroom, there is a medicine cabinet, large drawers and a closet, along with a large shelf, and some netting accessible from the back. And that’s in addition to the “pizza oven” shelf above the cab and two large glove compartments on the passenger side.

But it’s still difficult to find space inside the van for some things.

Stinky slinky

Thor installs a grey water hose compartment underneath the seating area that is accessible from outside and keeps grey water from dripping on anything inside.

I removed that compartment to make space for my lithium battery upgrade.

Even if I hadn’t, I also upgraded to a better quality grey water hose that wouldn’t fit in that compartment.

Snowboard

None of the numerous storage areas are big enough for a snowboard.

My snowboard fit pretty well on the floor behind the seats. But that location created a trip hazard when entering or exiting the cab.

It also required making sure there was no snow or slush on the board before putting it away, otherwise the melting snow would drip onto the floor.

My campervan needs external storage.

This is one of the reasons I am selling my campervan. It doesn’t meet all of my needs. For example, I need four-wheel-drive.
