Takeaways from "The Dawn of Everything: A New History of Humanity" by David Graeber and David Wengrow

Graeber and Wengrow perpetually
Studied humanity’s history
    They linked their minds
    And sought to find
The origins of inequality.

Because of how they relate
Many believe and state:
    The answer’s the same
    If they could name
The origins of the state.

The history commonly viewed
That from this it all ensued:
    Farming revolution
    So groups were producin’
A surplus of time and food.

The new wealth situation
Allowed for specialization:
    Soldiers, police, baronets;
    Living on violence and threats;
All forms of domination.

It’s supposedly universal,
A path that’s irreversible.
    But based on facts
    Of how humans act,
It’s a myth that is unsupportable.

We know this world is suboptimal,
But we learned that it was unstoppable.
    Yet things can be different.
    We can still fix it.
Another world is possible.
