My Van Needs a Parking Space

street parking

Ry, my 2022 Thor Rize campervan, (now for sale) is built on the 2021 118-wheelbase Ram Promaster. It has approximately the same footprint as a Cadillac Escalade and fits into all standard-sized parking spaces.

However, the parking spaces at my apartment building are not standard size. Ry fits, but makes it difficult for others to access other parts of the lot.

Parking on the street is easy but finding a space nearby is very difficult at certain times. This is a big inconvenience when returning home from camping trips, and makes using the van as a daily driver far too much hassle.

Street parking also means having to move for street cleaning and planning around that.

Not having a private parking space also means not having a place with hookups. Shore power while at home makes it easy to keep the fridge and pantry full and the batteries topped up. Water and sewer connections at home make it easy to empty the grey tank, and fill the fresh tank between trips.

Not having a private parking space also mean not having a place to work on the van. When I discovered that replacing the toilet would require remodeling the entire bathroom, I had to give up. That’s an ambitious project. Needing to move the vehicle every few days would make a difficult project like that completely unworkable.

My campervan needs a parking space.

This is one of the reasons I am selling my campervan. It doesn’t meet all of my needs. For example, my van needs a copilot.
